Coriandrum sativum (its scientific name), is a herb that belongs to the Umbelliferae family and the only spece that is part of the genus Coriandrum. While its origin is uncertain, coriander is believed to be native to southeastern Europe and North Africa.
Coriander is used to flavor various sauces, vegetable and chicken soups, and different varieties of meats.
